The Spathiphyllum, or Peace Lily, is easy to care for and is one of the favourite houseplants for indoor gardens, offices and public spaces. The peace lily gained its common name because of the resemblance of its white flowers to a white flag of surrender or peace. As a result, it became associated with peace, harmony and purity. It is often gifted on occasions such as house-warmings, graduations and funerals as a symbol of good wishes and sympathy. It has glossy, dark green leaves and elegant white flowers. It is also known for its air-purifying qualities, so it has become the “healthy work-space plant” in recent years, not only because it removes toxins from the air, but also because of its “peace and harmony” symbolism.
